I think there's a widespread school of thought that old or nearly immortal beings like elves and draculas and shit have developed some kind of centuries long ageless patience. An attitude something like, "I have seen empires rise and fall, rulers come and go. This too will pass in the blink of an eye, and matters not to the world."

But I also like ancients who are like do what you want forever. "Are you kidding, a century ago everyone was wearing skirts. Wear pink, sleep in a tree, dance in the street, climb up the walls, talk to strangers. No one's gonna give a shit in a hundred years, have fun now!"

Ah yes, the dichotomy of immortality:

- The years start coming and they don't stop coming

- So much to do so much to see so what's wrong with taking the back streets

I'm literally so obsessed with this guy.

He finds these tiktoks of people freaking out about things they see on airplanes and explains why it's fine and then EVERY SINGLE TIME he goes of on a really long, extremely detailed tangent about Lord of the Rings lore before casually going back to his original topic just before the video ends.

Can you imagine being that intensely knowledgeable about aeronautics and still having enough brain space left to remember every detail of the lore from a fictional series of novals that's so exspansive they teach university level classes about it?

You can replace [ACTIVITY YOU ENJOY] with [SCROLLING] but watch out. This sucks bad 👍

Some things about this post since getting quite a few notes:

1. If you see this post, highly recommend taking it as an opportunity to set a timer for 15 minutes and switch over to ACTIVITY YOU ENJOY. if after those 15 minutes, you want to go back to scrolling, that's okay!

2. Huge shout out to this popping up in my notifs often, bc I do go back to activity.

3. I think there are times where scrolling is fine. Right now, for example, I'm being connected to a machine for two hours to donate plasma and platelets. Yes this is a brag but it is also a time where scrolling is one of the few things I can do. (Though I will probably also read or watch something on phone lol)

I think that, when you are on hold, the hold music should not stop to tell you that you are on hold. The hold music should only stop when someone actually picks up your call. Vote me for president

drarunpeel

"There are 5 callers ahead of you" can stay but it's on thin fucking ice, i.e, it can only stay if it plays when the number of callers ahead of you changes and not every 5 minutes. And CERTAINLY not every 30 seconds

derinthescarletpescatarian

The hold music shouldn't stop but it should speed up as you get closer to the front of the queue

also no stopping every 30 seconds to say "did you know you can complete this online?" buddy if i could accomplish this online you bet i would. one message at the beginning of your hold and then shut the fuck up

I know we talk a lot about keep jumping on boxes, but I'm honestly so grateful for Joe hills' knife theory; a variation on spoon theory that says once you're out of spoons, you can choose to take knives instead in the knowledge that it will hurt later. and the number of times I've told myself 'ok let's take the knives' is so high that I've found it really helps to acknowledge it. Thanks, Joe

I think there is a message here that a lot of people don’t get: there is a cost when you do not have the spoons for something and some force compels you to do it regardless

this is the first I’ve ever heard of “knives” in the context of disability, but I’m disabled and retired entirely because I took more knives than I can even begin to count at my old job, and was never given a chance to recover from all the stabs and slices

so i feel like “knives” could do for being more widespread, so that people better understand the choice they’re making and the toll it can take if they do things that they don’t have the spoons for
